What is Cloudian?
Cloudian participates in the data storage industry by offering customers a way to manage the growth of unstructured data. Cloudian does this through distributed file systems and object storage as software and hardware solutions.
Cloudian’s core product is called HyperStore, an object storage product that uses open source Apache Cassandra. HyperStore is sold as both an appliance and as software through Amazon’s AWS marketplace.
I have a significant Splunk implementation – can Cloudian help?
Cloudian reduces storage costs by 70% while increasing storage scalability. Cloudian HyperStore provides an exabyte-scalable storage pool that is separate from your Splunk indexers. Utilising Splunk SmartStore and Cloudian together you can decouple the compute and storage layers so that you are able to independently scale resources as required. With SmartStore, Splunk Indexers only retain newly indexed data in hot buckets. Older data resides in warm buckets and is stored within the scalable and cost-effective Cloudian cluster. SmartStore manages where the data is stored, moving data among indexers and the external Cloudian storage based on data age, priority and users’ access patterns.
Within our organisation we are increasingly moving to the Cloud. How would Cloudian integrate with this strategy?
Whilst Cloudian is on premise storage, it still integrates directly with public cloud storage services. Policy-based tools can be employed to replicate or tier data to AWS, GCP or Azure for offsite DR, capacity expansion or data analysis in the cloud. This built-in capability requires no additional software or licenses.
Cloudian HyperFile overcomes the limitations of traditional NAS and supports your Cloud initiatives with infinitely scalable file storage and multiple data management options. You can maintain storage entirely on premise or span on premise and cloud storage environments.
The HyperFile NAS Controller delivers unified support for file and object storage plus the full range of enterprise NAS features—such as SMB/ NFS support, POSIX-compliance, snapshots, and WORM—all in a fault-tolerant, highly available platform. With next-generation capabilities like multi-cloud integration and converged data access support, HyperFile is a solution that goes far beyond traditional NAS.
I am more interested in leveraging Cloudian for a Private Cloud Storage – is this possible?
Sure, you can deploy Cloudian HyperStore S3 storage within your data centre and create a private cloud S3 storage service. With a multi-tenant architecture, Cloudian lets you share a single cluster among multiple users and applications while maintaining complete data isolation.
Policies let you establish usage quotas, security, and backups—and ensure SLA adherence with robust Quality of Service tools. Cloudian allows you to perform all of the functions of a Storage-as-a-Service provider inside your own enterprise, including metering and chargebacks to departments.
